First, let’s talk dessert. When I was trying decide what to make for dessert for our July 4th party, I knew I wanted something easy and that would serve a lot of people. I remembered a fruit pizza recipe that I used to make years ago, and thought it would be fun to recreate that and decorate it to look like a flag, to go along with my theme.

I made the flag at an angle, just for something a little different, and I think it turned out pretty fun!

ingredients

ingredients for dessert pizza

sugar cookie dough
cream cheese
sugar
fresh fruit
whipped topping

And that’s it! Just five simple ingredients.

directions

Spread a thin layer of cookie dough to cover the bottom of a baking sheet. I used at 13″x 18″, and it took 2 rolls of cookie dough. Any size pan will work fine. It just depends on how many you want to serve.

Bake until lightly golden. I just used the baking instructions on the cookie dough package, which was about 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
When it is done, take out of the oven and let cool completely.
Mix softened cream cheese (I used 3-8 ounce bars for this size pan) with about 1/2 cup sugar. Beat until smooth.
Spread the cream cheese mixture over the top of your cookie dough.
Next, garnish with fruit. I used blueberries, raspberries and strawberries to create a flag pattern, but you could use any fruit you like and arrange any way.
For the flag design, I used canned whipped topping to create the white stripes between the fruit stripes. And a tiny star cookie cutter to cut star shapes out of a banana slice.

and it’s that simple

Just cut and serve. Your guests will think you worked on it all day!

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 can whipped topping
  • fresh fruit

Instructions

  • Bake until lightly golden. I just used the baking instructions on the cookie dough package, which was about 15 minutes at 350 degrees.

  • For the flag design, I used canned whipped topping to create the white stripes between the fruit stripes. And I used a small cookie cutter and cut stars out of a banana.

Notes

If you take the cookie dough out of the refrigerator and let is soften for a bit, it makes it so much easier to cover your baking sheet.
Also, if you soften the cream cheese, it mixes with the sugar much easier and is much more spreadable.
